The Sixth Ordinary Session of the Finnish Expatriate Parliament, Helsinki 24. – 25.5.2010

The sixth ordinary session of the FEP was held on May 24th and 25th in the main building of Helsinki University. The plenary session was held in the Grand Hall. The committee work was held in the seminar rooms.

182 organisations, 191 representatives and 44 observers from 23 different countries took part in the session.

Report of the Secretariat

The session was attended by President Tarja Halonen, who made a speach to the session on Monday. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Stubb held a speach on Tuesday. Other honorary guests attending were the Estonian ambassador Merle Pajula, the Canadian ambassador Chris Shapardanov and the Foreign MInistry's secretary of state Pertti Torstila.

Minutes

The minutes of the session will be sent to every participant at the session as well as the organisation they represented no later than two months after the end of the session. If the participating organisation or representative has given an email address, the minutes will be sent electronically. If there is no e-mail a paper copy of the minutes are sent by mail.

Resolutions 2010

The session gave 67 resolutions. The Secretariat is now processing the texts, then sends them to be translated and after that to be printed. When the resolutions are in printed form, they will be submitted to the Prime Minister, who will send them for statements to the various branches of Government.

The session also confirmed a new Speakers' Council, whose term of office began immediately at the end of the session and will continue until the next session is over.
